FAQ

Heat pump questions, answered honestly

No invented averages, no pressure — just the factors that actually determine each answer for your home.
How much does a heat pump installation cost?

There is no honest universal number: cost depends on your home’s size and layout, whether existing ductwork can be reused, the equipment tier (single-stage to variable-speed cold-climate), electrical panel capacity, and any incentives you qualify for.

That’s why we do an in-home assessment first, then give you a written, itemized estimate with options — so you compare real numbers for your house, not averages from the internet.

Will a heat pump work in cold weather?

A heat pump can heat a Tri-Valley home when selected for its calculated load and local design conditions. Check the chosen model’s heating capacity and any proposed supplementary heat.

Equipment ratings, airflow and installation details all affect performance. Nominal tonnage alone does not establish cold-weather output.

How long does heat pump installation take?

The schedule depends on equipment availability, permits, access and any duct or electrical changes. Confirm the expected work sequence and interruption to heating or cooling after the project scope is established.

What size heat pump does my home need?

The size that matches your home’s actual heating and cooling load — calculated from its square footage, insulation, windows, orientation and air-tightness, not guessed from a rule of thumb.

Oversized systems short-cycle, dehumidify poorly and wear out faster; undersized ones run constantly without catching up. We perform a load calculation before recommending equipment.

Should I repair or replace my heat pump?

It usually comes down to age, refrigerant type and repair history. A newer system with a first-time, minor fault is normally worth repairing. Replacement deserves a serious look when a system is 10–15+ years old, uses phased-out refrigerant, needs a major component, or has needed several repairs in recent seasons.

We give you both paths priced side by side and explain the reasoning, so it’s your decision — made with real information.

How often does a heat pump need maintenance?

Professional maintenance once a year is the sensible baseline — ideally before summer, since cooling season is when Tri-Valley systems work hardest and dust and debris load outdoor coils. Between visits, the homeowner’s job is simple: keep filters clean and keep the outdoor unit clear.

Are rebates or financing available?

Available programs and eligibility depend on your address, household, equipment and application timing. The former federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit applies to improvements through 2025, so do not assume it is available for a new installation. Check the dated notes and official resources on our Rebates & Financing page.

Ask us about financing options when you request your estimate.

Do you offer emergency heat pump repair?

Contact us to confirm current service availability for a no-cooling or no-heating problem. Availability and response times are not promised. See our existing Emergency HVAC Service page for safe initial checks and when to contact emergency services.
