Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality planning starts with the space and the problem you want to address. Filtration, moisture control, ventilation, and source control do different jobs. Equipment should be selected for the room or duct system, with practical access for cleaning and filter changes.

Air Purifiers

Portable purifiers treat air in the rooms where they operate. Whole-home filtration works with the HVAC air distribution system. Room size, airflow, filter type, noise preferences, and ongoing replacement-filter costs all affect the choice.

A higher-resistance filter is not automatically a suitable upgrade for an existing air handler. Check the manufacturer’s guidance and available airflow before changing filter specifications.

Humidifiers

Start with measured humidity and building conditions. Adding moisture can be appropriate in some circumstances, but excess moisture can create condensation. Discuss water supply, cleaning requirements, controls, and placement before adding humidification.

Dehumidifiers

Persistent moisture should prompt a look at its source, including drainage, leaks, ventilation, and equipment operation. Dehumidifiers need appropriate sizing, a reliable drain path, and controls suited to the space. They do not repair a water intrusion problem.

Ventilation

Ventilation brings outdoor air into a building and removes indoor air. A plan must consider outdoor conditions, filtration, exhaust locations, and the effect on heating and cooling loads. The appropriate approach depends on the building and its existing equipment.

Indoor Air Quality Systems

Treat air quality as part of the complete comfort system. Review filter access, duct condition, equipment compatibility, and routine care. A purifier does not replace ventilation or source control, and equipment choices should not be treated as a promise of a health outcome.

Your questions, answered.

Does a purifier replace ventilation?

No. Filtration removes some airborne particles from air passing through the filter. Ventilation exchanges indoor and outdoor air; they serve different purposes.

Can I use any filter in my HVAC system?

Use a size and specification compatible with the equipment and duct system. Excessive filter resistance can reduce airflow.

What should I prepare for an estimate?

Share your city, existing equipment, comfort concerns, and project timeline. A site assessment can then establish equipment size, placement, electrical requirements, and the proposed scope.

Plan the next step.
